Answers To Your Top 3 Questions About 'Appendix G'
Paramedic programs seeking and maintaining CAAHEP accreditation must demonstrate compliance with the new Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions. A tool that can be used by programs to show that they have met these standards is Appendix G: Student Minimum Competency Matrix, or simply, Appendix G.
Read on to get the answers to your top three questions about Appendix G and how Fisdap will help you through this process.
1) What is Appendix G?
Paramedic programs seeking and maintaining CAAHEP accreditation must demonstrate compliance with the new Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in the Emergency Medical Services Professions. These requirements are designed to ensure the program is providing adequate numbers of patients (proportionally distributed by age-range, chief complaint, interventions); showing progression of learning from the class to the lab to clinical to field to the capstone field internship; and establishing a minimum number of patient encounters prior to program completion.
Appendix G: Student Minimum Competency Matrix is a tool that can be used by programs to show that they have met these standards.
2) In order to maintain CAAHEP accreditation, when does my paramedic program need to start demonstrating compliance?
Paramedic programs must start demonstrating compliance by July 2019.
3) How is Fisdap planning to address these requirements?
The developers at Fisdap are currently working to address these requirements and Appendix G in a variety of ways, including:
-
Updating our terminology to better match Appendix G.
For example, the “altered level of consciousness” impression will be renamed to “altered mental state” to reflect proper Appendix G terminology. -
Allowing instructors to set or import program requirements.
Instructors will soon be able to either manually set program requirements or upload a populated Appendix G: Student Minimum Competency Matrix file into their Fisdap program settings. -
Providing individual student progress reports or program compliance reports.
Instructors will be able to generate individual student milestone reports against these updated requirements. Additionally, instructors will also be able to download a copy of their completed Appendix G form to use with their Self Study Report (SSR) submissions.
These exciting updates and new features are on track to be available late summer 2018.
