Fire Prevention Week: Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety [Infographic]

Each October, Fire Prevention Week highlights the importance of fire safety education in our communities. This year, Fire Prevention Week will take place October 3-9, 2021.

Fire Prevention Week started as a way to honor those who lost their lives in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The awareness week is observed annually on the week of October 9, marking the most damaging day of the Great Chicago Fire. 

Our partners at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have designated this year’s theme: “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety.” Fire service professionals, departments, and districts are encouraged to educate their local communities on how to identify the different sounds smoke and carbon monoxide alarms make and the steps they should take to keep their families safe in the event of an emergency. The goal is that this important, potentially life-saving message will reach families and communities all over the U.S.
