This interactive lecture discusses trauma emergencies that happen in areas essentially undisturbed by human activity together with its naturally developed life community. It discusses the L.A.T.E. principle of wilderness EMS that can help organize the response to a trauma patient, as well as the MARCH PAWS approach.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

• Distinguish between wilderness and street emergency medical services contexts.
• Explain the reason wilderness patients are considered hypothermic, hypovolemic, and hypoglycemic until proven otherwise.
• Demonstrate how to manage bleeding wounds in wilderness trauma care.
• Discuss when CPR is appropriate within the context of wilderness care and when it is not appropriate.
• Differentiate between signs and symptoms of common bites and stings in wilderness trauma care.
• Demonstrate proper management of common bites and stings in wilderness trauma care.
