This interactive lecture explores pediatric transport. At some point in their career, every prehospital care provider is faced with the decision of when and how to transport a child. Whether the child is a patient, or accompanying an adult, the transport decision involves many facets, including local protocols, local motor vehicle laws, available resources and equipment, and EMS regulations. Most importantly, you must also meet the sometimes urgent and changing medical needs of your pediatric patient while considering the operational issues involved in transport.

After completing this course, the practitioner will be able to:

• Describe methods to secure a child safety restraint to a wheeled stretcher.
• Summarize appropriate National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommendations for safe transport based on the condition of a child.
• Discuss current initiatives to increase the safety of pediatric transport.
• Discuss limitations of current safety recommendations.
