This Recert course discusses budgeting. Knowledge of the budget process is useful for the fire officer, even though it is not covered in most promotional exams. Instead, budgeting is considered a professional development skill as identified by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). The fire officer must demonstrate good judgment in allocating or conserving the resources for which he or she is responsible.

After completing this course, the fire officer will be able to:

• Describe the budget cycle (NFPA 4.1.1) (NFPA 4.4.3.
• Identify revenue sources.
• Discuss the impact of lower revenue on resources.
• Describe the purchasing process (NFPA 4.4.3).

Fire officers who successfully complete the Budgeting course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
