This Recert course discusses the components of a lesson plan, including the formation of learning objectives. It also covers the four-step method of instruction used for delivering fire service lesson plans and provides details for how to prepare for instruction. Lastly, it highlights the differences between the responsibilities of a Fire Instructor I and a Fire Instructor II in relation to adapting and modifying lesson plans.

After completing this course, the fire instructor will be able to:

• Identify and describe the parts of a lesson plan.
• Describe the four-step method of instruction.
• Describe the instructional preparation process.
• Describe the lesson plan adaptation process for the Fire Service Instructor I.
• Describe how a Fire Service Instructor II creates a lesson plan.
• Describe how a Fire Service Instructor II modifies a lesson plan.

Fire instructors who successfully complete the Lesson Plans course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
