This Recert course discusses introduces the five elements of the communication process and discusses the ways that the learning environment contributes to communication. It also examines advanced communication processes, including nonverbal communication, active and passive listening, and verbal communication issues related to volume, language, and tone. Students will learn how to write effectively and how to decide which communication styles to use in the classroom.

After completing this course, the fire instructor will be able to:

• Identify and describe the elements of the communication process.
• Describe the role of communication in the learning process.
• Compare and describe the different types and styles of communication.

Fire instructors who successfully complete the Communication Skills course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
