This Recert course discusses curriculum design and developing both program and course objectives. It details the four-step method of instruction and what is included in a properly formatted course objective. Options for providing the needed instruction will also be explored, including course development from top to bottom and modification of an existing curriculum.

After completing this course, the fire instructor will be able to:

• Discuss the methods of training needs assessment.
• List the steps in the curriculum development model.
• Discuss the importance of properly stated program and course goals.
• Describe the content of properly constructed learning objectives.
• Explain the purpose of modifying existing curricula.

Fire instructors who successfully complete the Instructional Curriculum Development course are eligible for 1 hour of continuing education.
