This Recert course provides information to meet the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, at the Fire Officer I and II levels. Fire officers use leadership and delegation to accomplish departmental objectives and goals. They must make ethical decisions based on a value system. The four-step management process includes planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. After completing this course, the fire officer will be able to:

• Identify the requirements of a Fire Offcer I.
• Describe the roles and responsibilities of the Fire Officer I.
• Describe the fire service in the United States.
• Describe fire department organization.
• Describe the functions of management.
• Describe the roles of rules and regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
• Identify the requirements for Fire Offcer II.
• Describe the roles and responsibilities of the Fire Offcer II.
• Describe working with other organizations.

Fire officers who successfully complete the Introduction to the Fire Officer course are eligible for 1.5 hours of continuing education.
